DRAPED

The Draped series is a collection of handmade ceramic objects that balance sculptural presence with artistic expression. Inspired by Sam’s background in working with leather, the pieces resemble thin, folded hides or flowing fabric, yet are entirely made from clay. Their delicate, fluid appearance captures a sense of softness within a hard material, like if their frozen in time

The process combines hand-shaping with layering techniques, sometimes using a nerikomi-inspired approach where different clays are pressed together to create natural patterns. Unglazed surfaces highlight the raw character of the clay, while a transparant glaze can be added to create a liquid effect. Each piece is carefully refined by hand, resulting in objects that feel deeply tactile.

The Draped objects can be displayed lying flat, leaning against a wall, or hung as sculptural statements. They come in varying sizes, colors, and patterns, and no two are ever the same. Every object carries its own stillness and character, a dialogue.
